For our Product Development department, we’re looking for a Cloud Engineer. StudySmarter has been around for six years and is a profitable Munich-based education technology scale-up. We’re remote-first (but offer hybrid for those who prefer it), and we believe strongly in our culture of trust, collaboration, and transparency.

As a Cloud Engineer at StudySmarter, you’ll be working within the broader Engineering team. You’ll be the first hire in a newly forming team that will take over and expand responsibilities currently spread across other teams. You’ll collaborate closely with technical leaders across disciplines, backed by our VP of Engineering. You may be the first — but you won’t be alone.

You’ll be responsible for both cloud maintenance and development, particularly across our AWS-based infrastructure (provisioned via Terraform and managed through Kubernetes). But your role will go beyond just maintenance.

You might:

• Collaborate with developers to evolve and optimize our software development platform lifecycle (SDPL).

• Take the lead in enhancing our observability and logging infrastructure across services.

• Help identify opportunities to incorporate modern AI tooling into DevOps workflows (for instance, using LLMs to improve deployment validation or automate internal documentation).

• Work with product and infra teams to scale and harden our WordPress-based systems, especially around caching, CI/CD, and performance.

• Contribute to our transition from monolith to SOA, helping manage orchestration, service deployment, and cross-service communication.

• Implement or refine our strategies for handling DDOS attacks, bot mitigation, and other security challenges.
