Als Full Stack Software Engineer – Web Platform & AI (m/w/d) bei StudySmarter gestaltest du aktiv eine der einflussreichsten Lernplattformen, die weltweit Millionen von Studierenden nutzen.

Unsere aktuelle Webplattform basiert auf WordPress – wir entwickeln jedoch aktiv eine moderne, flexible und skalierbare Architektur auf Basis von React, Node.js und cloud-nativen Services. Du wirst nicht nur Features umsetzen, sondern auch maßgeblich daran beteiligt sein, wie wir sie bauen.

Das erwartet dich:

  • Du treibst die Weiterentwicklung unserer StudySmarter-Website und -Webplattform aktiv voran

  • Du implementierst neue Seiten, Features und Services im Frontend und Backend

  • Du hilfst bei der Evaluation, dem Design und der Umsetzung von Architekturverbesserungen (z. B. Auslagerung von Logik aus WordPress, wo es sinnvoll ist)

  • Du arbeitest an der Einführung und Verbesserung moderner Technologien wie React, Node.js und servicebasierter Architekturen

  • Du unterstützt andere Entwickler:innen dabei, die Codequalität, Best Practices und technische Standards zu erhöhen

  • Du bringst KI in deinen Entwicklungsalltag ein und nutzt sie für Produktideen (z. B. Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI APIs)

Was du für diese Rolle brauchst

Wir suchen einen Software Engineer, keinen reinen WordPress-Spezialisten. Du solltest WordPress kennen, aber dein Skillset geht darüber hinaus.

  • Mindestens 3 Jahre Erfahrung als Full Stack Developer in modernen Webumgebungen

  • Fundierte Kenntnisse in WordPress und PHP, kombiniert mit React und Node.js

  • Starke Grundlagen in HTML, CSS, JavaScript und sauberem, wartbarem Code

  • Erfahrung oder starkes Interesse an Softwarearchitektur, Skalierbarkeit und Performance

  • Neugier und Offenheit gegenüber KI-unterstützter Entwicklung und modernen Toolchains

  • Produktorientiertes Denken mit Sinn für Usability und UX

Bonuspunkte, wenn du zusätzlich Erfahrung hast in:

  • Docker, Kubernetes oder AWS

  • DevOps-Praktiken oder Backend-Services jenseits von WordPress

  • Python oder anderen Backend-Sprachen

Your Role

Your Role

As a Full Stack Software Engineer - Web Platform & AI (m/f/d) at StudySmarter, you will play a key role in shaping one of the most impactful education platforms used by millions of students worldwide.
Our current web platform is built on WordPress, but we are actively evolving our architecture towards a more flexible, scalable, and modern setup using React, Node.js, and cloud-native services. You won’t just build features - you’ll help us decide how we should build them.

The following tasks await you:

  • You actively contribute to the development and evolution of the StudySmarter website and web platform

  • You implement new pages, features, and services across frontend and backend

  • You help evaluate, design, and implement architectural improvements (e.g. moving logic out of WordPress where it makes sense)

  • You collaborate on introducing and improving modern technologies such as React, Node.js, and service-based architectures

  • You work closely with other engineers to raise overall code quality, best practices, and technical standards

  • You bring AI into your daily development workflow and product thinking (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI APIs)

What you need to succeed

We are looking for a software engineer first, not a pure WordPress specialist. You are comfortable working with WordPress, but your background goes beyond it.

  • 3+ years of experience as a full stack developer in modern web environments

  • Solid experience with WordPress and PHP, combined with React and Node.js

  • Strong fundamentals in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and clean, maintainable code

  • Experience or strong interest in software architecture, scalability, and performance

  • Curiosity and openness towards AI-assisted development and modern tooling

  • A product-oriented mindset with a strong sense for usability and UX

Bonus points if you bring:

  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS

  • Knowledge of DevOps practices or backend services beyond WordPress

  • Exposure to Python or other backend languages
